Ah, acoustics in Thai schools (good catch).

One-on-one tutoring works for me, but the coming interview presents a different view (same time... same channel ;-)

I really enjoyed Chris' insights. Made me wonder about the horrible acoustics of most Thai schools (concrete walls) and how most Thais do not correct your pronunciation.

There does seem to be a pattern developing in my little world of friends. It seems one-on-one tutoring is the best way to learn.

Learning the sounds of Thai first makes a lot of sense now and I hadn't really suspected so. An American friend who speaks fluently tried to drill this into me about learning Thai: "You don't know the tones? Ya got nuthin!" Thanks to my friend and now the two interviews on Thai language learning, the message has finally sunk in. Yes, I was one who was anxious about building vocabulary. Well, I got nuthin'. My American friend is now intent on building vocab (BTW, he teaches in Thai at Mahidol University, full-time.)

I've got nine months back in Canada and it was my intent to work away at Thai. Now I know the right direction to take.
