Talen, I was thinking the same thing. I've known a few people from the Peace Corps and they all had a grand adventure.

I'm shy, but I still have a go. And I miss those days running around with Lynn and her driver Niwat. We'd chat away in Thai until his face and neck would turn red when we hit the wrong note. And being the gentleman he was, we never did find out what we said wrong - only how to make it right.

I knew I should have joined the peace core years ago. It seems a few of the interviewee's found Thailand and the Thai language that way.

"Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. We all do it."
This really is advice that everyone should remember.

Luckily I'm not embarrassed to try and speak the language and mangle it. I often get looks of confusion but someone usually figures out what I am saying wrong and tells me the correct word or pronunciation. The best is when you get it right and you get looks of amazement.
