Don’t worry Martyn you can always talk to me in that babbling Thai we both know so well. As long as we can ask for the beer and the bathroom we should do just fine.

Catherine you are making me feel stupid and that’s putting it bluntly. Where do you keep finding these intellectual folk who are so bloody fluent in Thai. Soon I will be the only farang in Thailand who cannot speak the forked tongue.

Marcel I am presuming is an ‘ex journalist’ which bodes the question, how the hell do you give up a profession like that. Some of us mere mortals would have to be physically removed from the office with the promise of a fat pension and a monthly column in the Sunday supplement. How the intelligent half live.

Mind you seeming as Barang and ‘farang’ sound so good together perhaps his natural mastering of language is all in his name.
